Lane Reduction to Cause Travel Delays at US 183 and Loyola Lane

(Austin, Texas) – Beginning Thursday evening September 7th and continuing through October 2017, Loyola Lane east of US 183 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. In conjunction with the lane closures on Loyola Lane, one of the two left turn lanes from southbound US 183 onto eastbound Loyola Lane will also be closed (See attached map). The closures are necessary so crews can complete construction of the new northbound US 183 general purpose lanes where they cross Loyola Lane.

Drivers using US 183/Loyola Lane intersection may experience increased travel delays and are encouraged to take alternate routes. Suggested detour routes include:

•  Johnny Morris Road
•  Old Manor Road
•  Springdale/Manor Roads
• FM 969 (MLK Jr. Blvd.)

Pedestrian and bicyclist access on Loyola Lane west of US 183 will not be impacted. However, a portion of the sidewalk on Loyola Lane east of US 183 and the pedestrian crossing at Loyola Lane/US 183 will be temporarily closed during this phase of construction.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is building a new tolled expressway with three lanes in each direction on an eight-mile section of US 183 between US 290 and SH 71. In addition, the Mobility Authority will be reconstructing and improving the non-tolled US 183 general purpose lanes and adding $25 million worth of pedestrian and bicyclist facilities. The project will open in phases between 2019 and 2020, offering greater mobility for all users of the corridor.
