Lane Closures Planned to Pave Loop 1 (MoPac) and FM 1626 near new 45SW Toll Road

(Austin, Texas) — Work to place the final layer of pavement and stripe the new SH 45SW toll road and adjacent roadways is getting underway. To accommodate the work, crews will be closing lanes during daytime hours on Loop 1 (MoPac)/SH 45 between Escarpment Boulevard and South Bay Lane. They will also be closing lanes on FM 1626 between Bliss Spillar Road and Lewis Lane.

The work involves removing a portion of the roadway surface and applying an overlay of new Permeable Friction Course (PFC) asphalt. PFC comes with many benefits, including its ability to reduce pollutants from stormwater runoff and improve ride quality and vehicle fuel efficiency. In addition, PFC can reduce water spray that will help improve driver visibility and safety.

The lane closures on Loop 1 (MoPac) and SH 45 will take place each weekday (and possibly Saturdays) from Thursday, March 28 for approximately the next three weeks, typically between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Within this three-week time frame, there will also be two to three nighttime lane closures for striping operations, tentatively scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 10, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

On FM 1626, lane closures will take place each weekday tentatively from Thursday, April 18 to Friday, April 26 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

During April crews, will also be placing the final layer of permeable friction course pavement on the new SH 45SW toll road in preparation for its opening in May.

The lane closures should not cause any significant travel delays. Drivers are reminded to stay alert while in the construction zone and be prepared for lane closures. All closures are subject to change based on weather and other circumstances. In addition to lane closures, residents in the area may experience some noise.
